Modified Starch in Industrial Application

Starch is a carbohydrate extracted from agricultural raw materials.

The natural sources such as wheat, rice, tapioca, potato, and maize /corn. Starch is an integral part of adhesive formulations and is used in wide range of industrial applications.

Modified starch is used in industry such as paper, mining, adhesive, building materials and now also the new stream Bio-Plastic and Bio-chemical industries.

- Paper Industry

Modified starch is mainly used in the wet end and gluing papermaking process to improve the strength and printability.

- Mining Industry, it used in well-drilling process, Starch is mixed with clay and this mixture provides proper water holding ability and viscosity to drill oil wells.

- In the adhesive application, the starch displays its main function of viscosity. The starch-based adhesive applies in paper box, paper tube and cardboard.

Due to the shortage of oil supply and environmental protection views are now very popular. The development of the green industry has promoted the growing demand for renewable biopolymers (biodegradable/decomposable plastics), which are considered to be alternatives to synthetic polymers (traditional plastics). Starch is one of the abundant polymers in nature. It has been extensively researched because it is abundant, cheap, biodegradable and edible.

- Bio-plastic Industry

Starch is used to combine with other bioplastics in order to improve decomposition efficiency and reduce the use of petrochemical materials.
